How Often Should You Really Clean Each Room? (Room-by-Room Guide)

One of the most common questions we hear is: "Am I cleaning my home enough?" The honest answer is: it depends on the room. High-traffic areas need more frequent attention, while others can be left for monthly deep cleans without any real impact.

Here's our room-by-room guide based on what we see in thousands of homes across Shepparton and surrounds.

🛁 Bathrooms — Weekly

• Scrub toilet bowl and wipe seat, lid, tank and base
• Clean sink and tap (descale monthly)
• Wipe shower walls and clean drain
• Mop floor and wipe mirror

Monthly: Scrub grout, clean exhaust fan, check and clean behind the toilet.

🍳 Kitchen — Weekly (some tasks daily)

• Daily: Wipe benchtops, stovetop splashes, wash dishes/empty dishwasher
• Weekly: Clean inside microwave, wipe fridge exterior, mop floor
• Monthly: Clean inside oven, inside fridge, rangehood filter, cupboard fronts

The kitchen is where bacteria grows fastest — don't skip the daily wipe-down of benches.

🛏 Bedrooms — Every 1–2 Weeks

• Change bed linen every 1–2 weeks
• Vacuum or mop floors weekly
• Dust surfaces (bedside tables, shelves, ceiling fans) fortnightly
• Flip mattress every 3–6 months

🛋 Living Areas — Weekly

• Vacuum carpet or mop hard floors
• Dust TV unit, shelving and ceiling fan blades
• Wipe remote controls, light switches and door handles (these are dirtier than you think)

🪟 Windows — Every 3–6 Months

Interior windows can be done every 3 months or when noticeably dirty. Exterior windows every 6 months or after heavy rain. Tracks and sills should be cleaned at the same time — they collect dust, insects and mould quickly.

🚗 Garage / Laundry — Monthly

• Sweep garage floor, wipe laundry benchtop
• Clean washing machine drum (run a hot empty cycle with white vinegar monthly)
• Check dryer lint trap — this should be cleared after every use
